Lessons in the Alexander Technique are tailored to the specific requirements of each student. Teachers are prepared to work with students of all abilities and a large range of interests. People choose to take lessons for a wide variety of reasons, and can be broadly classified in three ways.

  • People who wish to develop optimal physical functioning and awareness to meet the demands of highly skilled activities. In this category we find actors, musicians, dancers, athletes, public speakers and more.
  • People whose postural habits have become very poor, uncomfortable or painful. Students of this type may already be complaining of headache, backache or muscle tension or they may be seeking help to avoid the onset of complaints. For example: computer users, pregnant women, and teachers.
  • People who have sought the care of medical doctors, chiropractors or physical therapists. Lessons help them return to normal activities in a constructive and safe manner. Some of the common complaints in this group are sciatica, scoliosis, migraine, TMJ disorders, arthritis, back pain and repetitive stress injuries.
